Dear Scatacook Scouters,

Let me start by introducing myself. I’m Eric Larson, Scatacook District’s new Chairman. For those of you who do not know me, I have been a Scouter since 1987 when my oldest son joined Pack 9 in Danbury. I have been a Webelos Leader, Assistant Cubmaster, Assistant Scoutmaster and Scoutmaster. Now that my sons, all three of them, are grown, I continue to serve Scouting by being involved at the District and Council levels.

Now with September being around the corner, the new Scout year is about to start. The District Committee wants to help you get off to that great start. Therefore, I’m inviting each one you to join us for our first District Roundtable on Wednesday, September 9, 2009. The Roundtable starts at 7:30 PM at St. Thomas Church in Bethel. We will have a complete Roundtable program for all Cub Leaders. We will also have a variety of literature and contacts available for you. It is our job, as members of the District Committee, to help you succeed with your units. So come join us for Fun, Fellowship, Information and Good Scouting.

If you have not joined us before, click here for directions to St. Thomas Church.

And speaking of websites, visit our website and visit it often. Our webmaster does an exceptional job of keeping the site current. And that is not an easy task. The information, contacts and forms you will need are on our website.

As your new District Chairman, I would like to visit each Pack during a committee meeting this fall. I would like to take a few moments of your time, only 10 to 15 minutes, to talk to you about the District, our goals and activities for this year, and how we can be of service to you. This can also be a time for you to ask me questions about the District and Scouting. I promise not to take up all your committee time.

Please contact me ASAP to schedule a visit.

Now many may be wondering why the title of my newsletter is The Cook’s Fork. It is not in reference to my cooking, but it could be. First, “Cook” is short for Scatacook, our district. Second, in the Indian language of the tribes that lived here, Scatacook means “Fork in the River.” This is a possible reference to the junction were Ten Mile River flows into the Housatonic River up near Bull’s Bridge in Kent. So I chose “fork.” Just a little bit of history and a little play on words, rolled into one.

Let me close by saying if there is anything you need for your Units or any questions you have, do not hesitate to contact me. If I cannot answer your questions, I will direct you to a member of the District Committee who can and will assist you.

Yours in Scouting,

Eric  email
