Raul A. Camejo Sr.

Raul A. Camejo Sr., age 70, of Southbury and formerly of Hundred Acres Road, Newtown, died Nov. 7, 1998, in Naples Hospital, Naples, Fla. Mr. Camejo was the husband of Shirley Mae (Hyatt) Camejo. They were married in August 1953.

He was born in Camagucy Province, Cuba, Oct. 17, 1928, a son of the late Crisobal M. Camejo and Rose Pelacz Camejo Garcia y Hernandez.

He moved to the United States in 1949 and became a citizen in 1953.

Mr. Camejo was retired from Carolina Freight Corporation, where he was a fleet maintenance supervisor. He also was the vice president of RAC Diesel Service Inc. of Brookfield, Conn.

He was a lifetime member of the Dodgingtown Volunteer Fire Department and a former member of the Newtown Board of Fire Commissioners. He was active in Cub and Boy Scout programs in Newtown for over 30 years. He served as the scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 370 for 29 years. He was holder of the Silver Beaver Award, scouting's highest adult award, the Scatacook District Award of Merit and the National Scoutmasters Award from the National Eagle Scout Association. He completed the Wood Badge training program and served on numerous Wood Badge training staffs. Over the years, he took several groups of scouts to the Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, N.M., where they backpacked in the Sangria De Christo Mountains and to the Maine High Adventure Base.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Raul A. Camejo Jr. of Southbury and Richard A. Camejo Sr. of Newtown; a brother, Jose M. Camejo of Queens, N.Y.; a sister, Lidia Ferrer of Cooper City, Fla.; three grandchildren, Christopher J. Camejo of Southbury, Richard A. Camejo Jr. and Rachel Ann Camejo of Newtown.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Nov. 12, 1998, at 11 a.m. in the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main St., Newtown. Interment will be in Newtown Village Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m.
